Who is this Mike L. Murphy guy???

What can I say?  I’m simply me.

  • I was an exchange student in Belgium one summer.  Been to 4 continents.  3 to go.  (Antarctica, I’m talking to you!)
  • At 16 I dropped out of  Los Gatos high school (same school as Steven Spielberg…geek tidbit for you) and went to the college that Walt Disney created– California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
  • My first industry job was animating the robots for Disneyland.  Yes, I was a nerd.
  • My first movie I animated on was Brad Bird’s Iron Giant.  Great movie.  No one saw it.  You should.
  • I sold my first project to producer Joe Roth in 2001 (3 years out of uni!)
  • I lived in New Zealand for 2 1/2 years while working on a tiny little trilogy.
  • I’ve taught or done animation lectures at such prominent studios and colleges as CalArts, Art Center, Art Institute Atlanta, Walt Disney Feature Animation, and Woodbury University.
  • My favorite movies are E.T., Back to the Future, Jaws, The Apartment, & Annie Hall.
  • I’ve studied acting (to help my directing) at Carter Thor Studios, Lee Strasberg Institute, Judith Weston, and Scott Sedita Studios.  I even studied stand up comedy with Gerry Katzman.
  • I’ve been the Forest Gump of film by working as an animator, writer, director, animation director, art director, special effects supervisor, previs designer, previs supervisor, storyboard artist, comper and more.  Plus I can skip and chew bubble gum at the same time.
  • Favorite band is the Beatles.  Also love Led Zeppelin, Sinatra, Kanye, and Weezer.
  • I started an annual charity event for the Young Storytellers Foundation: The Bohemian Dream Party.
  • As a hobby I paint pin up inspired art.  Check it out at Little Bit Of Wonderful.
  • I’ve gotten into Internet Marketing to help me find crazy ways to fund my dreams.  Some of my companies include:

How To Model! Coaching

Cashflow Cuties!

How To Be Funny: Comedy School!
